Fire extinguishers are indispensable fire protection devices for instant use in the case of an incipient fire. 85% of all fires can be extinguished before the fire fighters arrive, by means of one or more fire extinguishers. For every fire fighting incident there are suitable fire extinguishing agents, e.g., powder as an all-round means, and foaming agents for special cases.
Fires can only be effectively combatted if the appropriate equipment with the agents appropriate for the incident are being used. Water-based extinguishing techniques require a particular specialist compentency since potable water is used. Potable water is a foodstuff and is subject to specific hygiene requirements.
